Rent Freeze and Rent Control for Small Businesses

16.1 COPE will build support with small businesses for commercial rent-control, and call for a four-year Rent Freeze for local small businesses in Vancouver.

Progressive Property Tax for Businesses

16.2 COPE will advocate for a progressive commercial property tax system that protects small businesses, like neighbourhood stores, and that taxes large corporations like big box stores. Using the definitions of business size from federal regulations, COPE will propose a progressive tax with a:

16.2.1 Lower rate for small businesses with less than $500,000 active income;

16.2.2 Middle rate for medium-sized businesses with under 500 employees and more than $500,000 active income; and

16.2.3 Higher rate for big businesses with over 500 employees.

Advocate to Improve Canadian Public Pension System

16.3 COPE will call on the federal and provincial governments to improve Canadian public pensions -- both their funding and benefits -- to mitigate negative economic impact of  rampant speculation and profiteering that harm the relative value of Canadian retirement income.

Advocate for Reversal of Provincial Corporate Tax Cuts

16.4 COPE will vigorously advocate for reinstatement of 2001 provincial taxation rates.
